AT&T is going over the line and into tyrannical rule by forcing Jailbroken iPhone users(who are using “illegal” tethering apps) to sign up for the official tethering service. Now I know that doesn’t quite sound terrible as it’s obviously losing them money and I personally send big beefy dudes to knock people’s teeth in when they owe me money, but AT&T is going too far and setting an evil (and probably contagious) example for other companies. They are not shutting off the service or capping data transfers on the suspected “criminals”, they are automatically signing people up for the official monthly subscription app. Heres an excerpt of the email sent to the monitored illegal users:
“Our records show that you use this capability, but are not subscribed to our tethering plan… if we don’t hear from you, we’ll plan to automatically enroll you into DataPro 4GB after March 27, 2011. The new plan–whether you sign up on your own or we automatically enroll you–will replace your current smartphone data plan, including if you are on an unlimited data plan.“
So AT&T is doing some serious monitoring and knows exactly who is tethering, legit or not. This is scary, cuz if other service providers start doing this, it’s gonna destroy my tethering capabilities make not paying a ridiculous amount per month for tethering capabilities.
